Adolescent Immunization Project

The Request for Applications and grant application (for New Projects or for Continuation Projects) for the 2016-2017 WV Adolescent Immunization Project are now available. The deadline to apply is September 30, 2016.

Take Your Best Shot

The “Take Your Best Shot:  WV Adolescent Immunization Project” (TYBS) was developed to address the problem associated with low vaccination rates among adolescents throughout West Virginia. It has been envisioned that TYBS will be strategically implemented statewide through development of local immunization collaboratives led by designated lead agencies in each county/region throughout the state.

Adolescent immunization rates for Tdap and meningococcal vaccination are nearing Healthy People 2020 goals; however, influenza and HPV vaccination rates are still lagging very far behind. Thus, TYBS projects will now be focused primarily on improving HPV, influenza, and meningococcal B vaccination rates among adolescents. Currently, TYBS has been implemented in 42 counties throughout West Virginia.

Key Program Components

  • Community-based lead agency structure
  • Development of immunization-specific toolkits
  • Implementation of evidence-based strategies
  • Quarterly training sessions
  • Evaluation mechanisms
